An e-shop differs from a company website in one thing: every unnecessary second and every unclear button costs money. On a company site, a visitor leaves and may come back. In an e-shop, they leave for a competitor who has the same product one click closer.
Why WooCommerce
WooCommerce is an e-shop built on WordPress. There is no monthly platform fee and no percentage of revenue, and both the shop and the data belong to you. Ready-made integrations exist for local payment gateways, carriers and invoicing systems.
The downside is that it has to be built well. With hundreds or thousands of products, WooCommerce with an off-the-shelf theme and ten plugins slows down. Performance is therefore part of the design: how many database queries a category page needs, what can be cached and what cannot, how the filters behave.
The catalogue is the core, not an add-on
Customers in an e-shop mostly search. What matters is whether they find the product on the second try or the fifth. Categories, filters and search are designed around how customers actually shop, not how products are stored in the warehouse.
Just as important, someone on your team must be able to run the catalogue. Adding a product, changing a price, running a sale or hiding sold-out items has to work without a developer.
Integrations
Most of the work on an e-shop is invisible: connecting the payment gateway, carriers, invoicing and sometimes stock or accounting. These connections are listed at the very start, because price and timeline depend on them.
Launch
Before launch, complete purchases are tested with card, bank transfer and cash on delivery, on mobile and desktop. Customer e-mails and generated invoices are checked. If the e-shop replaces an old one, product redirects are set up so search rankings are not lost.
What it includes
- Kick-off call and written scope including all integrations
- Category and filter structure based on how customers shop
- Design of key templates: home, category, product, cart, checkout
- WooCommerce development with a focus on catalogue speed
- Payment gateway, carrier and invoicing integration
- Product import, redirects from the old e-shop, analytics
What you get at the end
- A working e-shop on your domain and hosting
- All access, including admin and connected services
- Tested purchases with every payment and shipping method
- Sales tracking set up
- Training on managing products and orders
Who it is for
- Companies starting to sell online that want an e-shop they own
- E-shops whose current solution is not enough or is slow
- Retailers with a larger catalogue where speed and filters decide
When this is not for you
- You sell a handful of products and want to start today. A hosted platform will serve you better
- You do not have products, photos or prices ready
- You need a marketplace with multiple vendors
Frequently asked questions
Why WooCommerce and not a hosted platform?
Hosted platforms are a quick start with a monthly fee and platform limits. WooCommerce costs more up front but takes no revenue share and can be adapted to anything.
Can WooCommerce handle thousands of products?
Yes, if it is built with performance in mind. Heavy themes and unnecessary plugins slow it down, not the number of products.
Can products be moved from the old e-shop?
Yes. Products, categories, customers and orders can be imported and old URLs redirected.
Who will run the e-shop?
You. Products, prices, sales and orders are managed in the admin without a developer.
