Website production for agencies
- How it starts
- A call, then a fixed price
The agency has the design, the deadline and the client. What it lacks is someone to build it. That is the whole brief, and the work looks accordingly — no ramp-up, no explaining what responsive design is.
What is needed from you
A Figma file with auto-layout turned on and styles defined. Not because it cannot be done otherwise, but because a properly built file shows what is a component and what is a one-off exception — and that is the difference between a site you can extend and a site that has to be assembled from scratch for every new page.
If the design is not built that way, it is not a problem. It is said straight away and the preparation time is added to the price.
How the things that are not in the design are handled
Every design is missing the same things: what the button looks like while it is submitting, what shows when a list is empty, what happens when a product name runs to four lines, what a form error message looks like. These states are not invented quietly — the list comes in one go and they are agreed while there is still time.
What the client ends up with
WordPress with custom fields, so the client cannot break the layout. No free-form editor in the places the design depends on. It is a boring decision, but it is the reason the site still looks the same a year later.
Communication and invoicing
Communication can stay completely in the background, only with you. Or directly with your client under your brand, if that saves you relaying messages. The agency is invoiced a fixed price per project, not by the hour — so your price to the client is certain.
